Kicking Analysis: Shute Shield 2018 Grand Final

Sydney University 45 v Warringah 12 at North Sydney Oval 9/1/2018

The Shield Shield is Sydney’s leading rugby union competition and has been a showcase of grassroots rugby since 1924. This game was all about the forwards setting the foundation for the backs.

The set piece from Uni was very strong. In fact, it was massive. The Warringah forwards looked beaten by halftime. The Uni backs were clinical, especially in counter-attack and playing for field position.

Kicking lessons were everywhere in this game. Warringah made poor kicking choices and failed to chase the kick. Uni played a variety of kick options and showed how easy kicking can be when you are playing behind a great forward pack.
